On April 3rd, 2026, Hiroshima was at its peak cherry blossom season, with beautiful weather and clear blue skies — the perfect day to enjoy spring.
On this day, instead of using the Nippon Journey office, we held the experience at Sorasaya Kitchen, a space located near the Atomic Bomb Dome.
As we had 24 students participating, we divided them into two groups of 12.
Group A started with the calligraphy experience, while Group B enjoyed the mochi & matcha experience. After 90 minutes, the groups switched so everyone could enjoy both activities.
In the calligraphy experience, we first introduced a brief history of Japanese calligraphy.
Then, we explained about Kumano brushes, which are known for having the largest production in Japan. After that, students practiced basic brush techniques.
Once they became familiar with the basics, each student chose their favorite Kanji from two options prepared in advance based on their name, and practiced writing it.
At the end, they created their final piece on thick paper and decorated it freely, completing a one-of-a-kind artwork.
Each piece reflected the student’s personality, and it was wonderful to see them sharing their work with each other.
Some even said, “I’m definitely going to display this in my room!” — which made us very happy.

2026年4月3日、広島では桜が満開で、青空が広がる最高のお花見日和でした。
この日はNippon Journeyのオフィスではなく、原爆ドーム近くにある「そらさやキッチン」さんのスペースをお借りし、書道体験と餅＆抹茶体験を行いました。
今回は24名の学生の皆さんにご参加いただいたため、12名ずつの2グループに分かれて体験を実施。
Aグループは書道体験、Bグループは餅＆抹茶体験を行い、90分後に入れ替える形で、両方の体験を楽しんでいただきました。
書道体験では、まず日本の書道の歴史を簡単に学びます。
その後、日本一の生産量を誇る「熊野筆」についてご紹介し、実際に筆を使って基本的な筆遣いを練習していきます。
基本が身についたら、事前に用意した「自分の名前を漢字にした2つの候補」から好きな方を選び、練習します。
最後は厚紙に本番書きをし、自由にデコレーションをして、世界に一つだけの作品を完成させます。
完成した作品は、それぞれ個性があふれていて、見せ合いながら楽しそうに交流している様子がとても印象的でした。
中には「絶対に部屋に飾る！」と嬉しい言葉をくれる学生もいて、こちらまで温かい気持ちになりました。
